I remember last week lamenting with you all about my prayer frailties and you must have taken it to heart, because I received lots of encouragement and understanding. You must have been praying because I do feel the goodness of God. Thanks!

Glenhaven was invited by the Brandon Burlsworth Foundation to attend Razorfest and the annual Red-and-White Football Game at the University of Arkansas on Saturday. We all had a great time, got a free T-shirt, and a pair of Brandon Burlsworth glasses. Champions for Kids hosted us and we received free food and drink the entire day. We got to go down on the field and be introduced before the game. Everyone had fun.

Money continues to trickle in as Our Heavenly Father cares for His kids here at GYR. Thank you for your prayers, notes of encouragement in this area, and the suggestions. We will prayerfully consider each one of them as we seek to be better stewards of His finances. God is good!

It consumes everything that I do. It is not worry. I am just bringing this issue before God at every turn. I often stop what I'm doing to pray for our finances with thanksgiving and praise. Why do I have to wait for a near crisis to pray like that? Is that true for you? I would like to think that I'm not alone in my humanness. I've prayed like this before, but do I do it on a daily basis? Unfortunately the answer is no. So I ask that you would pray for my diligence in prayer and my dependence upon God. I want to live dependent on Him and nothing else. I want to be able to say with Paul, 1 Corinthians 2:2 "For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.”

Greetings Intercessors

 

Glenhaven says hello! It is a beautiful spring day here in central Arkansas. If you need a little “Sonshine”just let us know and we'll send it your way! Let me tell you a quick story before we get into prayer requests.

 

I was riding my 4-wheeler around the ranch turning off lights and locking things up after workday last Friday when I decided to go to the food room and see what the work crew from Trinity Baptist in Texarkana had accomplished. They always do such incredible work when they're here. I was imagining the completed work when I noticed the Rec Room lights were still on. I thought, " They should be on," and my mind kind of froze. I decided to go on to the food room and worry about the Rec afterward. When my attention turned back to the road and driving, I saw that I was headed for a very deep ditch. The next thing that I knew I was flying off the 4-wheeler. I landed hard on my right shoulder and ended up curled up, in the ditch, below the 4-wheeler. I crawled up to the road, caught my breath, and called for help. The pain in my shoulder was intense and I couldn't stand up, so I just laid there and tried to laugh. But my shoulder and ribs hurt too much for that. Everyone came to my rescue and I'm ok. The doctor said that I have a slight separation in the shoulder and probably bruised the rotator-cuff in my right shoulder.

 

So say a quick prayer for Karen, my wife, this week she has to help me get dressed and put up with my infirmity. Which by the way requires alot of special attention be turned my way. She already thinks I'm milking this injury! I am not entirely sure that is a fair assessment.

 

We would like to ask that you continue to pray for our finances here. Like I said last week things are really tight. Donations continue to be a fraction of what is normal. We are now pulling money that we had designated for future projects in order to make payroll. (FYI: We will not use any monies that are donor designated.) These monies were set aside by us to save for future projects, but now we need them.

 

Residents: we have accepted two new residents, one young man & one young lady. This time of year is hard, they all want to go home and most will have to stay.

 

Houseparents: the Bakers, the Pitts, & the Cunninghams (who are filling in as girls HP's) Melody is doing much better and the Bakers are going to be grandparents.

 

Staff:

• Mary, who has inflamed the area around her tailbone, the disc above her tailbone is bulging, and she needs healing.
• Leigh Ann Rice and the baby. She is pregnant.
• Scott’s sister Noe has non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer, she’s on her 4th round of aggressive chemo treatments. The Manuwai's will be traveling to see her in Hawaii. Praise to God for the funding for this trip for them.Harding family, getting ready for their son’s wedding, the bride is working till the day before the wedding & must travel at the last minute, travel mercies for trip
• Troy & Kim, there is spiritual attack that always exists when one tries to follow the leading of the Lord, logistics in packing & preparing to move, moving, and travel safety as well as their kids’ needs.

 

Continue to pray for:

• God’s provision of newer vehicles and monies to fix the old ones
• Melody Baker’s continued recovery, she gets better each day
• Wisdom and discernment of GYR leaders
• The need for House-parents and Resident Instructors

Intercessors and Prayers Warriors

Thank you for your prayers. I know that so often we pray for one another and we never find out the outcome. We are not able to rejoice with those that we pray for as God answers the calls of His people for them. We pray that this little email will keep in the know about things that you have prayed for on Glenhaven's behalf. If you ever miss something, please, let us know. We know you are praying and we want you to know the results and how much you help us when you pray.

• The resident interviews - We interviewed one young lady yesterday, the other young lady will be next week. We will interview the young man tomorrow.
• We hired the Swaffords as house-parents for girls. They will be here sometime after the 24th of May.
• The interview went well with the Moyers and we will be flying them down here for a face-to-face interview in the next month or so.
• Continue to remember the Colorado trips for boys and girls.
• Please pray for the financial condition of Glenhaven. Today our bills are paid and payroll has been done for the 1st of the month. The problem is that we do not see the money coming in as it usually does during the first of each month. (Maybe people are paying their taxes?) The Father wants us to ask Him. So, in faith, we are asking Him and we ask that you join us in asking Him to release the treasures that He has in the hidden places for Glenhaven.   

It is beautiful in Arkansas this time of year. It is probably beautiful most everywhere right now. So we pray for you and that you will be able to get out there and enjoy what God has created. Have a Blessed week!

Greetings Intercessors

 

What does it mean to be an intercessor? I got this definition from my daily devotion from Oswald Chambers. I got to tell you I have read My Utmost for His Highest for many years and I never cease to be amazed by what it says. It is as if i'm hearing it all for the first time. It always inspires me, encourages me, and kicks my rear-end at the same time.

An intercessor is one that is so closely identified with Him(Jesus) that they have His view concerning the people for whom they pray.

That is our prayer for you, that you will be so closely united with Jesus that you have His view concerning Glenhaven and its people. And that you will actually be in a state of worship as you pray.

• Wow, we did make it through last week. Scott said that it would take the Glenhaven staff almost a year to accomplish the amount of work that was completed last week by the two groups. not to mention the relationships that were developed and deepened in the Lord. The food was amazing, the worship was amazing, and everything we did together was amazing. THANK YOU for your prayers.
• We interviewed the Swaffords and the Moyers this week and are just taking our time to pray about their coming. We have gone for awhile waiting to hire only direct care staff. Now please pray that if one or both of these families are not right for Gods purposes here, He will reveal that to us.
• We do have an on-time God, He's never late and He always provides for us and His kids at Glehaven. We do not know where the money is coming from to start possibly, two more houses. We do not need to see it. He has His provision in the hidden places. He does want us to ask Him. So we are asking that you would join us in asking our Heavenly Father for provision for two more resident homes to be staffed.
• The McNeals returned and today Mark's dad passed out and they are at the hospital with him right now. He appears to be OK. The Dr's are checking for a broken rib and doing an evaluation of some new meds that he is taking.
• Girls and boys trips to Colorado, planning, provision, and preparation. (Wow, three P's)
• We are interviewing two girls and a one boy, for placement, this week. Pray that we will have insight into their lives and we will be able to impact their lives and their families with the saving message of Jesus Christ, whether we place them or not.
